Shikara Ride

Spend half a day cruising on the ubiquitous Shikara (gondola) on the Dal and Nigeen lakes exploring the unique lifestyle of Mir Bahris, a vibrant community who live on the lake, feast your eyes on the floating gardens, interact with vegetable and flower sellers, stop by to drink a hot cup of Kahwah or Kashmiri tea and buy a trinket or two as mementos of your ride on the lake.

Heritage Walking Tour

A half day tour, with a knowledgeable guide provided by Rah Bagh who will escort you from the Papier Mâché mosque or the Madin Sahib Mosque, built in 1444 — an excellent example of papier mâché applied to woodwork, an art form brought from Central Asia — through to the Jamia Mosque; watch craftsmen engraving copper artefacts at the copper market known as Mehraj Gunj, on the way you can also visit the Shankracharya temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. Located atop the thickly wooded Shankaracharya Hill or Takht-i-Sulaiman, meaning Solomon’s Hill, it was later named after the saint Adi Shankracharya who preached enlightenment here in AD 750.

Srinagar is a shopper’s paradise. From exquisite papier mâché artefacts to exquisitely woven pashmina shawls, hand knotted silk carpets to felt covers with crewel work, walnut wood furniture to engraved copper vessels, dry fruit and saffron, you will be spoilt for choice.

Garden Tours

Take time out for a leisurely stroll or picnic in the centuries old gardens laid out lovingly by the Mughal emperors. Just a few minutes away from Rah Bagh are the famous Nishat and Shalimar gardens and Asia’s largest tulip garden-the Indira Gandhi Memorial Garden, where tulips bloom all through April
